Psalm 23 For the Work Place

Psalm 23 For the Work Place

The Lord is my real boss, and I shall not want. He gives me peace, when chaos is all around me. He gently reminds me to pray and do all things without murmuring and complaining.

He reminds me that he is my source and not my job. He restores my sanity everyday and guides my decisions that I might honor him in all that I do.

Even though I face absurd amounts of e-mails, system crashes, unrealistic deadlines, budget cutbacks, gossiping co-workers, discriminating supervisors and an aging body that doesn't cooperate every morning, I still will not stop, for He is with me!

His presence, His peace, and His power will see me through. He raises me up, even when they fail to promote me. He claims me as His own, even when the company threatens to let me go.

His Faithfulness and love is better than any bonus check. His retirement plan beats every 401k there is! When it's all said and done, I'll be working for Him a whole lot longer and for that, I bless His name.

Out Oct 25th

Hey all, I'll be out on vacation next weekend (Oct 25th).  Luis Rendon will be overseeing media to make sure things run smooth.  Doug / John, please support Luis and the staff by showing up early as you usually do.  Dave, it would be great if you could get a copy of the service after 1st to do the video podcast.  Although I will be showing Luis how to edit and upload.

Craig, please help by monitoring the level on the Encoder PC is good during the message during 1st service.

Let me know if you all have any questions.

Thanks,
Randall

Latest Recording Volume for Podcast Capture

Due to change in audio signal by removing the sound board return from the video board, we've needing to adjust the audio volume by decreasing it significantly.  This may change depending on feedback.  Next month will be a better barometer on how things sound.

Discontinuing Saturday Services at Calvary

Hell my church family,
In an update to the church's financial situation, the leadership has decided to stop doing Saturday evening services after this month.  It's sad yet at the same time we know God is at work.  Before I discuss other serving opportunities if you were serving on Saturday (and there are other opportunities), Please read Allen's post on his blog here:

If this kind of stuff shakes you at all about the church, please feel free to contact me directly on the phone.  I've been at the church for over 10 years now (serving most of that time) and I have seen the ups and the downs.

Allen put it great in his letter but another way to encourage you is to realize: 1) At Calvary Austin God is worshipped, and 2) At Calvary Austin God's Word is preached.  Amen!

Randall

Media Schedule & Other News

Hey Team,
Here's the new schedule for August.  Please note I've put the A/B schedule on the top.  A0 is Saturday, A1 is 1st service, and A2 is 2nd Service Sunday, and B, etc.  I've done it that way to hopefully come up with a more specific system that may integrate in the future with the F1 system.
Media Schedule

Some of the latest things that you may or may not know.......

Video Podcasting
We take the audio podcast and create a video podcast using a service similiar to Google Video.  It's called Blip.tv.  Check it out here:
http://calvaryaustin.blip.tv/
Note the many ways to subscribe to the service:
Subscribe to this show via iTunes, Miro, channels.com, Blogger.com or RSS

The audio podcast is edited and uploaded right after 1st Service on Sunday.  The Video Podcast is saved as an MP4 (an Apple format) and uploaded after 2nd Service.  Let me know if you'd be interested in creating these files and uploading them to the web at these times.

Stage Lighting Controlled by PC Software
You'll probably notice that the age old lighting board is gone.  Now everything is running from one board.  You might note that there's a "Live" window on the far left PC monitor that shows several "soft" buttons you can hit to generate different scenes.  We now can use the software to create any combination of scenes for any lights in the auditorium (including the House Lights).
Again, let me know if you would be interested in creating scenes or had ideas on how we can make the lighting a great way to serve.

Thanks for your continued service to the Lord at Calvary Austin!  See you soon..

In Christ,
Randall

Next Message Series: Heroes - Sneak Peek

Here’s a sneak peak of the new series, “Heroes” which is a series through the Book of Judges.

Of course we’ll need to work diligently to transition out of Romans to make all the media necessary for the new series.  This is project oriented so there is a need for servant help outside of services times.  Here’s a few things that we need to team up on:

-       Media Elements – stage screens – We want to see if we can synchronize the three some way

-       Transition Video

-       New Dimmer System – Something we’ve been waiting to do and hope to have it all ready for the new series.  In this case we will have phase 1 and 2, phase 1 being just a simple swap of the current dimmer packs and the programming them to the board.  Phase 2 is putting the lights and dimmers on the poles above like they were when we initially moved.

-       Stage Design

Below/Attached is the image for the new series.  Let me know if you will be available to help.  If I can confirm a team of folks to help I will probably begin making times that we can go up to church and work on them.

God bless you guys!

Randall

Stage Screens - Easy Worship & JumpBack Inventory List

Hi all,
I have confirmed that we are able to use our Media Laptop to output the monitor and project on all three stage screens.  This means that we can do any videos ad hoc on the stage screens, but all of them will show the same thing at the same time.  This is much more efficient than our current process of creating a DVD for each screen and running it offset from each other (so they show something different on each).

Going forward I would like to use this method as a way to present the theme for the Service Series but also for Events.  Below is a listing of what we have in our inventory to use.  By going to the links listed for each JumpBack volume, you can click on their thumbnails to see what the video would look like.

For Events, we should be able to use these as an "inclusive" part of media instead of an add-on.  That means the one person running media for a particular Event can select any one of these videos in advance and run them for that Event throughout.  It does not mean we can change it on cue but for services we might work this in as an exception.

I would like to consider using this as a way to project the Nursery Alert if we use this for main services.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks,
Randall

Media Help Updates

Hey gang,
Some helps I've created, let me know if you have specific questions:

1. We need to drop the house lights to 50% for worship.  I put a script on the lighting PC (Far left Monitor) that puts a big message when it's time:

ALERT:
CHANGE HOUSE LIGHTS TO 50 PERCENT

It will go off after a while but hope it helps to remind us.  Allen is good to remind me when it's not done and boy is that embarrassing!

I've mapped network drives so you can get access to the servers:

Mapped Network Servers:
My Computer:

S: Drive = Share Server

To access the power point messages if you cannot get them on Outlook Express, go to this directory:

Hi Randall,

I just wanted to tell you that Calvary Church and you are a miracle worker in my family!  Because of you, me and the children started attending church regularly.  Due to us attending, Sonny and his children attend as often as they can.  Due to me also attending, now my sister/her hubby and their baby attend, and they just had their baby dedicated.  Due to the dedication, my dad and step mother attended and they fell in love with the Pastor and the church.  My father does not go to church as he doesn't like the "organized religion" however, he and my step-mom have been 2 weeks in a row with my father wanting to go to church!  We've prayed for so long that my father get back into church and Praise God it's happening!  God is so good and so Faithful!  Because of you, you have touch my family in a way that has blessed and enriched our lives more then ever!  Thank you Randall!

April Coverage - Media Calendar

Hello my friends..
I've put up April's schedule early since there are many things going on that will need to discuss and plan in advance.

- Easter Weekend -  April 11th & 12th
- My wedding rehearsal (for media specifically) - TBD but probably the week before
- My vacation time out of town for two weekends in a row (April 25th - May 3rd)

First off of course I need you to confirm that you will be able to cover Easter Weekend services.  Same as normal times. If I don't hear from you I may assume you can make it or might need to bug you for confirmation.  That's not normal for me hopefully.

Also the two weekends in a row I'll be out, I need help from you all to be self sufficient while I'm gone.  I may approach you individually for help in this regard.

Here it is currently:

You can always go to CalvaryAustinMedia.org and find it on the menu.

Thank you all.  I hope to see each of you at my wedding on April 25th.  If you didn't get a mailed invitation, please send me your home address and I'll get you one :)

God bless,

Living in God's Grace - Charles Stanley

Psalm 42

As the deer pants for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.  I thirst for God, the living God. When can I come and stand before him?  Day and night, I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, "Where is this God of yours?"  My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks – it was the sound of a great celebration!  Why am I discouraged? Why so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again – my Savior and my God! Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember your kindness – from Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan, from the land of Mount Mizar.  I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me.  Through each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.  "O God my rock," I cry, "Why have you forsaken me? Why must I wander in darkness, oppressed by my enemies?" Their taunts pierce me like a fatal wound. They scoff, "Where is this God of yours?"  Why am I discouraged? Why so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again – my Savior and my God!

Charles Stanley writes,

"When I visited the West Coast, I had the opportunity to do some photography at a spectacular beach. From 75 feet above, I watched huge waves roll in and crash on the rocks below, twisting and breaking, spraying foam into the air.

While observing this magnificent display, I realized that our lives are very much like those rocks when we're living in God's grace. This world can throw some mighty fierce waves our way, but no hardship is greater than God's provision for enduring it: Jesus' Spirit lives within each believer. By cooperating with His Holy Spirit, we can allow Christ's life to be released into our circumstance.

Nothing can move Christians out of the Lord's grace. His power dwells in us, ready and available. When we live in fellowship with our Father and rely upon Him, we can become like rocks, standing firm against the onslaughts of life.

God has granted us everything we need to endure triumphantly, no matter how intense the pain may be. Our peace and joy originate not in the circumstances of life but in our relationship with Christ. That's why we can experience contentment even when a tidal surge slams against us.

What situation is crashing upon you--relational problems, health issues, financial struggles? God wants you to live in His grace, rely on His strength, and place your hope in Him."

Bearing One Another's Burdens

Bearing One Another's Burdens
Galatians 6:1-5

If you are looking for a way to carry out Christ's command to love your neighbor, Paul has a suggestion: bear their burdens. At some point, everyone struggles under the weight of an oppressive situation. Believers have an obligation to get under that load next to their brothers and sisters.

Jesus sets the pattern for burden bearing. He calls to Himself all who are heavy-laden and gives them rest (Matt. 11:28-29). Since God predestines believers to be conformed to Christ's likeness, we must imitate His care and concern for those who suffer. Acts 4:32 shows that the early church followed His example. To lift the load of poverty, they pooled their resources so that no one was in need.

Paul's letters make clear his concern for the physical and spiritual welfare of growing churches. He fasted and prayed for them and sent missionaries when he could. He felt it was his responsibility to strengthen them, even though he sustained a personal hardship--his thorn in the flesh (2 Cor. 12:7).

A believer cannot wait until his life is clear of obstacles before reaching out to others, since that day may never come. Even though we have our own needs, we can do all things through Christ's strength--including sharing someone else's adversity (2 Cor. 12:9).
When you're willing to wade into someone else's troubles to help that person hold up under the weight, two things happen. First, he or she receives desperately needed blessings in the form of aid, support, and love. And second, you fulfill God's command to love a neighbor as yourself.

The Cross: Symbol of Supreme Love

The Cross: Symbol of Supreme Love
John 10:18

Countless people wear a cross because it symbolizes Christianity. But few fully grasp the depth of love that it represents.

The cross stands for what is arguably history's most painful method of execution. Crucifixion usually began with two soldiers flogging the criminal from the front and back. They used a strap with three leather cords, each containing a piece of embedded bone that tore flesh to ribbons. No wonder Jesus fell and struggled to carry His cross after such treatment.

The soldiers then hammered a long square nail into the hands or wrists; this shape would heighten the already excruciating pain. Another nail was driven through the ankles into the wood. Raising the cross, executioners would then drop it into a hole in the ground, the "thud" further tearing flesh. In order to breathe, the convicted man had to push up on his bloody ankles.

Jesus was God, but He was also fully man. So He experienced the physical agony any human would feel at such brutality. On top of that, He felt emotional and spiritual anguish because the nation rejected Him and His disciples denied Him. Worst of all, when He took our sin upon Himself, the Father turned away (Matt. 27:46; 2 Cor. 5:21). Yet Jesus didn't see Himself as a victim; He willingly offered His blood on our behalf and considered it a joy (Heb. 12:2). No greater love exists.

Take time to consider all that Jesus endured on the cross for your sake. As you begin to grasp the enormity of His sacrifice, thank Him for His boundless love.

Bad News - Google Video Going Away

Bad news gang:

Unfortunately this leaves a question of what we shall do.  Youtube limits videos to 10 minutes.  We need something where we can do at least 45 minutes to an hour for Allen's messages.

James / Dave, can you research some possible solutions?

Dean, can you let me know if we can upload at the most 200 MB's a week, if this will clog up our storage space on the web eventually? (I know the answer is yes, but need to just ask..and when).

Thanks,
Randall

Randall,

Just wanted to encourage you to see about rallying some more people to come to the conference from Calvary Austin. It looks like there are only a few dozen coming from the north church.  I know this conference is going to bless the attendees beyond their own comprehension.  The topics are going to include Finances, Protecting Your Marriage from Adultery, Doing Devos.... Together, and Passion in your Marriage. A simple email out to your church or your friends at church letting them know they can still register would be sweet!

I'll be sending out one more to people i know for sure, just thought i'd pass the suggestion along.

Media Calendar

Hi all,
Thanks for your continued service to God in the media ministry.  Here's the calendar for February, but please note that the calendar HASN'T MOVED!  It's the same spreadsheet on Google Docs.  So go ahead and Bookmark this site:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pZmhDCNUKSv2aOkCDGBoZBA

You can also always go to CalvaryAustinMedia.org and hit Media Schedule on the right hand menu.  It will pull up this email which provides the above link to Google Docs.

If it isn't obvious, we are very short staffed these days and I would appreciate your support (I myself need to be at every service which I'm sure you can understand is a little cumbersome).

Thanks be to God for the opportunity to serve HIM !

Mobile Wireless

Hi guys.  In case you haven't noticed, I'm a gadget geek.  We have an interesting problem in the tech world today, AT&T data outage. This can be bad for many, but most of us are tied down to our desks at work.  I found this article interesting for those that have wondered about the services offered in the mobile arena.

In other news, I sent out a save the date email for my wedding.  If you didn't get it let me know by sending your home address.  I want you all to be there.

Dim House Lights During Worship

Hi team,
Sorry about my poor communication, but just want to inform you that we need to drop the house lights to 50% during worship.  Then when we transition to Pastor Allen we'll bring the house lights to 100%.  This is a recent change, so don't feel bad if you didn't know.  I didn't realize it was a permanent thing myself.

Let me know if you have any questions.

God bless!
